New Tents and Solar Array for Hot Water

December 18, 2020 - More COVID safety measures were implemented at the Nambale Magnet School in preparation for a full student body return in January. Help came in the nick of time from the Los Altos California Rotary Club! Tents and solar water heating panels arrived in advance of the full student body opening in January.

The current classroom sizes make it impossible to keep the children separated at a safe distance from one another to limit the possibility of viral infection spread. In the absence of the time or the funds to create larger learning spaces, these large tent spaces will allow for open-air classroom learning and safe gathering for the teachers and the staff.

In addition to increasing social distancing by this generous gift, the Los Altos Rotary also provided the solar powered water heating system to create a sustainable means to have hot water for cleaning and cooking. In this region where harnessing the suns ample rays can eliminate the use of firewood, ecological and financial sustainability are enhanced exponentially by this addition to the school's solar array.

The commitment of the Cornerstone Project and the Nambale Magnet School in its development has been to employ ecologically sustainable means of development whenever possible. To this point, the school is extremely grateful to partner with like minded Rotarians that worked diligently to make this happen.
