Obituary

JOSEPH–Yolanda, The Lady Joseph, passed away peacefully at her home on March 9, 2014 at the age of 89. Born in Egypt, she grew up on the banks of the Nile before moving to New York City. She led an extraordinary life dedicated to children and education, founding a children's center in Cairo; as member of the Board of Trustees of the Brearley School; founding Bandwagon; and in her involvement with Homestart and the Nambale Magnet school in Kenya. She was married to Leonard Sheriff, a pioneer in merger arbitrage. She was later married to Keith Joseph, the noted British politician. Much loved mother of Margaret, Marina, Antony (and Danielle); sister of Guido; stepmother of James, Emma, Julia and Anna; and grandmother of nine. She touched everyone she met with her generosity, love, kindness, wit and enormous sense of style. A British Prime Minister was once moved to call her a "precious, precious bundle". A private funeral service will be held in Washington, CT.
