Why You Should Consider Becoming a Sustainer Donor
A sustainer is simply someone who commits to making an ongoing contribution, typically monthly, of a set amount with no fixed end-date. Monthly gifts continue until the donor acts to stop them.
The Positive Impact of Sustainers
Monthly sustained giving is now a definitive best practice in nonprofit organizations nationwide. The most successful organizations are aggressively pursuing sustainers at every opportunity and investing substantial resources into these programs. This is because overall, membership retention has been in a continuing slow decline. Fewer people are entering the ranks as new donors. And new generational behavior, as well as the impacts of new technology have contributed to shrinking donor files, diminishing revenue, and higher costs to acquire donors from a smaller pool of prospects.
Sustainer programs deliver predictable cash flow plus donors who are more engaged and loyal. Higher average annual gifts, coupled with a much higher retention rate – particularly compared to first-time single-gift donors – can help offset the high cost of donor acquisition, turn member file growth back to the black, and improve organizational net revenue for years ahead.
Why Sustainer Donations are So Important
In terms of long term planning, sustainer donations are by far the easiest on the donor as it doesn’t require an up-front large expense to cover and for us. It allows us to know how much we can be expecting in for longer term budget planning. This makes sustainer donations a win-win! As our sustainer donors increase we will report how much of the sustainer donations amount to in the percentage of moneys donated and what this donation will be covering so that you can always feel comfortable you know just what is accomplished and how.
This is the benefit to a small grass roots operation. The close and personal relationship you have with the boots on the ground in Kenya.
In ALL cases, your donation will either contribute to a specified project of your choice ranging from, operations, supporting a child. *(This should be considered a long term commitment on a sustainer basis as the children have 8 years of schooling and it is important to know that that particular child is taken care of until his or her final year.), capital improvement project, expansion goals or curriculum advancement and the result and progress of the work initiated by your generous contribution will be available for you.
The Need for Transparency and Our Obligation to You
All too often, I have found, as a donator to causes myself, once the money leaves your hands, a person is never really sure whether it has gone to where it is intended. I hear this over and over again from donors and have experienced as much as a donor myself. I am choosing as the chairman of the Cornerstone Project to offer more to our donors in the way of transparency. We want you to know how important what you are doing is to our development of the Nambale Magnet School. This is our obligation and we take it very seriously.
