Dairy Unit & Milking Cows

After construction of the dairy unit, several cows were purchased and the school began farming activities. The dairy unit supplies fresh milk for the children daily and the excess milk is sold to the community to support the school, adding to its sustainability. The dairy unit and the school's farm is also a teaching tool enabling the students to learn about modern methods of farming and animal husbandry.

For keeping cows healthy, productive and diseases free, good housing is very important. Provide cows required space inside the house depending on the breeds. Make proper ventilation system, and ensure sufficient flow of fresh air and light inside the house. Concrete house is very suitable for the cows.

The self-sufficiency the School achieves through having its own laying hens, using some eggs for its own needs, and selling the excess as a "cash crop"; the vegetable gardens that supply its daily needs through the seasons; the cows that provide milk. While this agriculture is supervised by experienced farm workers, the older students take on some garden responsibilities so they not only learn life skills, but are exposed to areas may benefit them later in life – horticulture, animal husbandry/veterinary training, and business ventures.
